Dear Mr. -------

Craft Apprenticeship - Midlands Region

Following your interview and medical examination I am able to offer you a Craft Apprenticeship in the Midlands Region. Your training will start on the 23rd September 1963 on which date you should report to Mr. E. Bourne, Station Superintendent Lincoln Power Station, Spa Road, at 8-45 a.m.

You will be at the power station for the first day of your training only so that arrangements can be made about overalls, insurance cards, wages and expenses. Your training will end on the day before your twenty-first birthday. Every effort will be made to place you at a station within reasonable traveling distance of your home, but there is no guarantee of this. Any appointment offered at the end of your apprenticeship will depend upon your progress and upon vacancies.

On the 24th September you should report at 9.00 a.m. to Mr. E. White, Principal, Burton-on-Trent Technical College, Abbey Street, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. At Burton you will start your workshop training course, which will be full-time, and will last until next summer. During this time you will have the normal technical college holidays, but you will be given homework to do during the holidays. When you have completed your workshop course you will start your power station training.

When the September 1964 technical college session begins you will start attending college one day each week. The course you take will depend to a certain extent upon your start and progress at Burton but you will be given guidance about this a little later. It is very important that you do not enroll without completing form R.84 which is mentioned on the attached leaflet. You should give the form to your engineer responsible for training.
