ELECTRICAL
FITTER

An electrical fitter in a power station may be concerned with anything from a generator to a light switch. He examines, tests and overhauls all the electrical equipment. Overhauling usually includes dismantling and reassembling the equipment.

Every power station employs electrical fitters. Their numbers depend on the size of the station and the nature of its plant. They may be asked to do any job for which their craft has qualified them. For example, a station may allocate a fitter to work on the coal and ash handling plant, on the switchgear or the boiler house equipment. Another may be allocated to the turbine house and cooling water system, or work on such general services as lighting and heating. Whilst familiarity with the layout of any particular equipment reduces the time taken to do a job, there is opportunity for variety and interchange of work.
