Your conditions of employment will be in accordance with the National Joint Industrial Council Agreement and the rates of pay are as follows: |

Age 15 - £3 3s. 0d. per week Age 17 - £4 19s. 9d. per week Age 19 - £8 6s. 3d. per week |
Age 16 - £4 3s. 2d. per week Age 18 - £6 5s. 2d. per week Age 20 - £9 7s. 3d. per week |

With two years' service and on attaining eighteen years you qualify
for 5/-d. per week service pay. These rates are national rates and if they
alter you will be told. Your apprenticeship will include a probationary
period of twelve months and your attendance at Burton-on-Trent Technical
College will count in this probationary period.
The enclosed leaflet will give you information about holidays, overalls, expenses, hours of work at stations, agreements, technical colleges, engineers responsible for training, pensions, and time off. If you have any doubts or questions please telephone or write to me before you accept the apprenticeship. When you are quite satisfied that you understand the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship please let me have your written acceptance. If you have not already done so it will also be necessary for you to let me see, as soon as possible, the official results of any examinations you have taken, or your end of school report.
