Gardening Association.
Messrs. Shipleys, Broadgate, are prepared
to allow approximately 10% discount to members for gardening
requisites. An order must be obtained from our Secretary before
purchasing and the cash paid to him. Members ordering expensive
equipment may receive loans from our Secretary up to a maximum of
£5, to be repaid at least at 1/- per £ per week. No interest
charge will be made. Members may, if they wish, make regular
payments on the club principle to meet the cost of future orders for
seeds, bulbs etc. and a card will be issued on request. The recent Annual General Meeting attracted only nine or ten enthusiasts but they had so much to say that the Chairman had to keep one eye on the clock. Once again an outing is planned but as a mark of progress we think this year it will materialise, to Sandringham Gardens which are open on Saturdays and not too distant. Flooding has played havoc with some local allotments but higher ground is yielding heavy crops of potatoes, beans and soft fruits. Dancing Championships. There has been little response yet to a circular letter issued to all Electricity Clubs in the East Midlands Area and the invitation is left in abeyance for the present. Cricket. To date our League Record is - won 3 lost 4 drawn 1. In the latter, time and one wicket prevented us winning, so that honours are at the moment pretty even with us, but we have a tough holiday programme ahead with a string of away games. Angling. To date our League Record is - won 1 lost 2. Our first encouraging win came last at Burton-on-Trent and was decisive with approximately 4 lbs. against 1 lb. In each match the team has aggregated over 4 lbs. from unfamiliar fast streams including the Witham. This next Sunday there is a home fixture against Derby on the Bottle and Glass reach at Kirkstead and on 10th August there is the long journey to Northampton. Tennis. The American Tournament for the Thurgur Cup was held last Saturday, 19th July, when six pairs were drawn out of the hat. Doubles were played against each other pair, some mixed doubles and not surprisingly two men won. The cup will be held for a year or six months by each player. |
